Gambling Scams

Find Out All About Gambling Scams and How to Avoid Them!

Gambling Scams and How to Avoid Them

Whenever you gamble, it automatically means that you are subjecting yourself to great risks. Which is what the word gamble means right?

Other than the normal level of risk that is attached to gambling, there are additional risks that you should be wary of; these are gambling scams.

Online And Offline Gambling Scams

Whether you are gambling online or offline, there is still a big chance that you will be scammed. It is true that gambling frauds are out there, which is why you should take extra caution whenever or wherever you play.

Spotting Online Gambling Scams

For an online gambling operation to be considered as a scam, it should involve the company refusing to give your winnings. Some can even go as far as refusing to let players win at all by presenting absurd probabilities. They can refuse your request to cash out the remaining money you have left in your account.

The best way to avoid such scams is by knowing exactly how they operate. There are two popular online scams related to gambling: Illegitimate Bonuses, and Piracy.

Illegitimate Bonuses

Surprisingly, there are gambling companies that scam you twice. There are known cases in which you, being a scam victim already, are invited by a new company to play with them. What you do not know is that, they are the same company that ripped you off the previous time around.

Of course, they would be posing as a new company. In fact, they will even express concern for you in their emails. They will express their sympathies for what happened. They will entice you with bonuses. They will offer freebies such as free games, if you sign up with them.

Did you ever wonder where they got your email? They got it from the sign up form that you completed with the first company of course! Being ripped off one time is enough. The second time around is too much. Don’t let them victimize you the second time around. Be cautious with companies that you sign up with!

Piracy

Piracy is a crime. Surprisingly this occurs with online casinos. There are fraudulent companies that copy the logos of legitimate ones. Some even go to the extent of duplication. Be wary of these.

Know the real companies from the fake by checking out the Interactive Gaming Council or ICG. Get to know the affiliations of the online casino you want to play with. Research them and look for reviews on the Internet to see what users have to say about them.

Offline Gambling Scams

For offline scams related to gambling, one of the most controversial issues would be identity theft. This is yet another popular incident because people who play in casinos use credit cards to buy their chips.

As we discussed earlier, identity theft is when a thief gets your important personal information such as your name, bank account number, credit card number and pin numbers. They will pose as you and use your account to purchase things that in the end will be billed to your address and name. Thus, you have to pay for their purchase.

Avoid Being A Victim

To avoid being a victim of offline gambling scams, you should learn to protect your personal information. Do not give it just to anyone. Be sure that you stash your documents in a secure place. If ever you get emails or phone calls, do not give them your account details if you do not know who is requesting the information. Do not click on any link that they may send to you. They go to the extent of installing adware or spywares to get your important information.

Watch out how they swipe your card. There are hand held devices that can easily get your cards information by swiftly swiping your card. This is really dangerous since these hand held devices can be really small, you may not realize that the waiter or sales clerk has it in their hand.

Be aware of your surroundings whenever you gamble. Digest everything that is written on the terms and conditions before you agree or put your money at stake.
